Raw: Door

Before it's a door, it's often a tree. Here's a timber stand under production near Bangor, Maine (where I live). This stand undergoes selective harvest, which leaves many trees standing. During their former lives your doors could have been neighbors...before moving to the city.

Safe Haven

This is the door to the church across my street, which doubles as a community center. Behind it there are rooms which hold everything from yoga classes & choir practice to AA meetings. Nestled amongst the trees and its own front lawn garden, it's a veritable oasis from the clamor and confusion of much of downtown.

Location: Christ Church United Methodist in downtown Troy, NY; taken from my roof.

A Park of Ruins

Parque das Ruinas is a public park built around/into/through/within an abandoned house in the Santa Teresa neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. A snake of scaffolding and platforms leads you through the windows and doors of the exposed brick shell to incredible views of the city, ending up either in a small botanical garden or an open plaza. It's incredible.
